See You at the Pole

See You at the Pole 2008 is Wednesday, Sept. 24. Check out these tips from other Brio sisses to make your event a success.

Speak Up!
The last time I went to See You at the Pole, there was a whole bunch of people praying there. But when a couple of girls came up to us and asked what we were doing, no one would speak up. So I finally did.

I told them what we were doing and what it was about. One girl just laughed and made fun of us, but the other girl really took it into consideration and actually looked interested. Later, she caught up with me, and we talked about God and the Bible. She’s a whole lot nicer now, and I really think that she’s happier.

Don’t be afraid to answer people when they ask what you’re doing! They might make fun of you; they might laugh, but they might also be led to Christ! —Lea

Sing Some Songs
I helped my school have an interesting See You at the Pole by suggesting that we have the chorus sing for us. They sang a few songs, and I think it got everybody’s spirits lifted. Then I prayed for my class. It was very fun. Our whole school was out there! —Alli

We usually start out in a long prayer and then have the person playing the guitar play some songs as we all sing. People go by staring at us like are freaks, but as they do, I just pray that God will lead them to turn around and join us! We call ourselves the Christian Warriors because our mascot is the fighting warrior! —Aubrey

Meet at the Town Hall
I'm home schooled, so last year for SYATP two of my home schooled friends and I met at our town’s flagpole in front of town hall to pray together. After we started praying, members of our town’s council started walking right past us for their meeting! We had no idea they were having their meeting that day, but it was cool to be a witness to them! We’re planning on meeting there again this year for SYATP, too. Hopefully we’ll be able to be just as much of a witness for Jesus to others this year as we were last year. —Rebekah

Pray Before the Big Day
Hey, all my wonderful Brio Sisses! Wow, SYATP is just around the corner. Can you believe it? I was really excited to read about it briefly in Brio and jumped at the invitation to offer advice on how to make this event unbelievable! The only thing that I can tell you that is a 100 percent guarantee of something amazing is this: PRAY!

Pray with your friends, your parents, your youth group, your pastor(s), and if you can get away with it, pray with your teachers. (Praise God if you can do the last one!) Ask God for His will to be revealed through SYATP this year. After all, the theme this year is “Connect.” Connect with God before you connect with your peers.

He desires to use you to move the student body in His direction, but before that can happen, you need to be in a place of connectedness with Him. Set an example for others this year and the years to come by being a prayer warrior and going to God for your success! He is mighty to save, and He will save mightily when you direct your all to Him.

I will pray for this nation, for sisters and brothers in Christ to be connected with God and each other through SYATP, and I cannot wait to hear all the amazing stories about how God works mightily through this nation of students! I love you, girls! —Rose

YOU Can Get Things Started!
Hello, Brio Sisses!
I go to a public school in Casper, Wyo. Every year my community Christian teen center (called The Link) holds a pep rally the week before SYATP. Anyone from any school is welcome, and at the rally, we get assigned an adult leader (usually a parent) to help our efforts. A large group of Christian teens from my school gets together at this time, when we get materials, plan and pray—a lot of prayers. We work hard the week before SYATP handing out flyers, talking to peers and informing the staff of what we’re going to do.

The coolest part is that many of our teachers are Christian in the public school setting, so every year the teachers ask the event coordinators to come to school before the regular students arrive so that the staff can pray over our ministry before it happens. I feel truly blessed to go to a school in which the staff is so sold out for Christ. Whether or not your school is supportive of SYATP, though, you can make it happen.

SYATP is an amazing experience, but it doesn't happen on its own. In order to make this event possible, YOU need to step up and organize this event if you feel God calling you to do so. It takes only one person to get this started, and from my experience, others will follow. Your student body will become stronger; your teachers will become more aware of your belief system, and you may even bring someone to Christ. It takes the initiative of one person to transform the identity of a school. So I ask you: Where will you be on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24? I thought so: I'll be seeing you at the pole. —Maddie
